Using a combination of found matrices, simple relief printing, and collage techniques, students will develop a visual language based on indexical marks. Collagraph printing provides a unique opportunity to examine the textures and traces that are ubiquitous in the world around us and combine them with a pre-existing visual language. This class will have an emphasis on using recycled and found materials that relate to translating a site and environment. Students will experiment with various collagraph techniques and multi-plate printing.

Instructor: Cecilia Caldiera

Cecilia Caldiera is a New York City-based interdisciplinary artist. Using sculpture, printmaking, and installation, she explores relationships among people, public space, time, and value. In her work, found objects are integrated into precarious new systems that challenge hierarchies of matter, recontextualizing local histories and sites’ material life with play and resilience. Caldiera graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in 2013 and an MFA from Columbia University School of the Arts in 2023.  Caldiera has been included in group shows internationally and recently had solo exhibitions at Astor Weeks in 2023 and Subtitled.NYC in 2024. She was a Neiman Center Fellow from 2021-2023 and an Interdisciplinary Art and Theory Program Fellow for the 2023-2024 session. Caldiera is currently a resident at the Hercules Art Studio Program and teaches at Pratt Institute and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop.
