Fun With Wood Type is a beginner-friendly workshop for anyone interested in playing with letterforms!
Students will explore SSP’s wood type collection, arrange their own short phrase, and learn how to print it on our equipment! Students will also be able to experiment with inking, over-printing, and using letterforms abstractly.
Come contemplate the interesting forms of the Latin alphabet with us! There will be stories about the evolution of the shapes in our alphabet and over all, a lot of fun!
This class includes a 20 minute lunch break.
All materials provided. Dress to get inky!
Instructor: Brian Allen
After a 40-year career working with letterforms and typography, 20 as a digital font engineer, 10 with a solo commercial letterpress print shop in Raleigh/Durham, NC, Brian has retired to Philadelphia to luxuriate in the arts, crafts, and culture here. He particularly enjoys the warmth and hospitality of the citizens. It affords ample opportunity to activate his sardonic sense of humor.
