Mask-required workshop (Kn95 or N95, extra masks will be available for students.)
Copper plate etching is a traditional form of printmaking that yields a variety of rich lines, textures, and marks. This introductory two-session workshop will demonstrate how to etch a drawing into a copper plate using an acid resist. Students will also be introduced to aquatint and drypoint techniques, as well as how to ink and print their plate on an etching press.
We will also cover safety and best practices while working in a communal studio with chemicals and press equipment. We will look at examples of printed works together and discuss the possibilities for translating individual artistic visions into print.
Participants will go home with a set of black and white prints, their 5”x5” copper plate, and a strong understanding of the medium.
No prior experience is necessary.
All workshop materials are provided.
