Francine Affourtit: Woodcuts in Progress
Visit Second State Press tonight from 6-9 PM as we kick off Francine’s month long print project! All are welcome and refreshments will be served!
During the month of July, Francine will be working at Second State Press as the Cindi Royce Ettinger Scholarship recipient to investigate strategies for fabricating large-scale woodcut prints from smaller press beds. By folding a single sheet of Japanese paper, Francine is developing large-scale works from a set of woodblocks that produce a constructed whole. On view in the gallery are the in-progress test prints that are being generated by this process as Francine experiments with different papers and procedures to understand the limits and possibilities of working in this fashion. Throughout the month of July the images on view will evolve as the works move toward completion, allowing the viewer to witness the iterations and developments of this process.
Stop by any time this month during normal shop hours to see the exhibition evolve and change! We’ve got the presses cranking Tuesday-Sunday from noon-10PM.
Quarter Sheet Challenge Artist: Max Seckel
Max Seckel has accepted the Second State Press Quarter Sheet Challenge! Each month we will feature a new artist in this on going exhibition series. The one requirement? Prints must be quarter sheet prints (15″ x 11″).
