Call for Teaching Artists

Part-Time / 3-4 hours per session / $25 hour

Second State Press (1400 N American St. Philadelphia, PA 19143) seeks applicants to join our pool of teaching artists for core classes and workshops.

Attendees to our core classes are primarily adult beginners, many of whom have little experience with printmaking. Our classes are informal and small-group format; all students are welcome. Instructors are expected to lead students through the basics of their medium while encouraging an inclusive, dynamic and positive atmosphere within the studio.

We are looking for experienced teachers located in the Philadelphia area who can adapt and thrive in a community studio environment and are comfortable working with a diverse set of individuals with varying levels of experience. Experience teaching in a community arts context as well as experience teaching in a one day class structure is preferred. Ideal candidates are capable of providing constructive feedback and guidance to students while maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all participants.

Other key skills include excellent time management, ability to collaborate with studio staff to coordinate class schedules, materials and logistics and, most importantly, dedication to making everyone feel welcome and appreciated at Second State Press!

The syllabus and class flow for our core classes and workshops is pre-determined by Second State Press - instructors need only to bring their enthusiasm and expertise. Classes can be run in a one, two or three day session format, depending on the needs of the medium. Educators interested in running their own pre-existing courses or themed workshops at Second State Press are encouraged to apply, as well.

Interested applicants must be willing to commit to scheduling out 6 months of classes with Second State Press and adhere to set class times and schedule listed below.

Our available class times are as follows:

Saturday & Sunday: 10:30am-1:30pm, 2:00pm-5:00pm,

Wednesday & Thursday: 5:00pm-8:00pm
